If you do go, make sure to check that the attractions are open, and definitely do the hike to the top (ask around as the trail to the top isn't always easy for people to find). ![]() Stone Mountain was mentioned, and it is decent. There are a fair number of Civil War monuments and battlefields in the state if you are a historian. Some decent wines with the occasional terrible or amazing wines thrown into the mix. Georgia does have a flourishing wine industry in the north of the state, and vineyard tours are a lot of fun. Bill Bryson's book A Walk in the Woods is a witty and humorous introduction to the trail if you need reading material on the flight over. One of the starting points is in Georgia at a wonderful waterfall. Maybe read up about the Appalachian Trail which is the most famous hiking trail in the United States. The area is beautiful, and hiking in our mountains north of Atlanta is amazing. The city is extremely small, so plan on exploring the mountains around the city. I will say it's an extremely American experience and a great insight into what many Georgians think a German/European city is like. It's about one and half hours north of the city. Helen is hit or miss depending on personal preference. Savanah is amazing, and one of the few places left in Georgia where you can get a feel for the older historic side of our state on a large scale. Plus that area is walkable with a fair amount of pubs and music venues. If you like strip clubs, the strip club voted both the best and worst strip club (simultaneously) in Atlanta is at the Clermont Hotel.
