![]() It is a very interactive tutorial, and while it does not hold your hand, the game does an admirable job of teaching you what you need to know to survive. There are a lot of systems to grapple with, and the first few hours of the game plays out like a massive tutorial. ![]() Still, I was capable getting going in more quickly than I did when playing it on PC last year. Tarpoint Gemini 2 was clearly built on the PC first, and while the controller is serviceable, the controls are not as clean and intuitive as using a mouse and keyboard. Because of my familiarity with the series, I was able to pick up and go more quickly than total newcomers to the games will likely be able to, but even then it was not a seamless process. They were good games, with dense systems that have by and large made a nice transition to gaming consoles. I am familiar with this title from when it released on PC and having played its predecessor. To say that Starpoint Gemini 2 is a dense experience might be selling it short, given the wide breadth of things to be done.Īdmittedly, it is a tough go right out of the gates. Combat has elements of strategy but also lots of action as you are forced to keep an eye on several things at once. There are plenty of simulation elements at play here as well, as you have to hire officers who have skills that compliment your ship’s needs, such as engineering or navigational focus. The way you explore and gather missions based on your prior decisions and earn experience points towards levels makes Starpoint Gemini 2 feel like an RPG. Starpoint Gemini 2 is really a blend of genres. You are the captain of your own ship, out in a three dimensional space where exploration and combat are at the centre of things. ![]() That being said, Starpoint Gemini 2 can be incredibly rewarding if you are willing to invest your time and effort into it. If you are looking for a game with a fast pace and a low barrier of entry, this title is almost certainly not for you. It does seem to have a well-tended Facebook page, though. As with a lot of strategy games, Starpoint Gemini 2 is going to ask for a good chunk of your time. You can also hire mercenary captains to join up with you and plunder.Ī bigger list of the features is available on Starpoint Gemini 2's website, but it's only in the early development stages yet. In an interview with, again, the aptly named SpaceGameJunkie website, Little Green Men Games general manager Danijel Mihokovic said that the main features of the new game will be "The open universe that I mentioned before, and direct controls I think it'll be a great feeling to chase a cruiser with my corvette through a dense asteroid field, dodging asteroids and weapons fire, all the while trying to get that perfect aim to blast it out of the sky." and this time round you can explore the entire game world as a whole, rather than individual "cut-out" maps, battle through a continuous universe divided into regions that provide special visual and gameplay experience with dynamic real-time combat. This time round, the team hopes to improve on a few things. Aside from everything else, there’s a rich space to explore and play around in, and that’s the kind of game design I can agree with." There seem to be so many skills, and so many ship-native abilities, that you’re going to discover some pleasing depth to all the non-curricular activities you get up to in the game, and craft tactics quite unique to yourself. "Of course this kind of “become a pirate, or a trader” sort of options are pretty par for the course of space sims, but from what I have played so far I suspect that there is far more RPG-like depth to to SPG than you might otherwise expect. It also seemed a complex and at times very difficult game: ![]() When Jim initially had a look at Starpoint Gemini, he found that the battles in the game were more like naval engagements than traditional pew pew material in that manoeuvring your ship to have your vulnerables protected was a fine-tuned process.
